A 5 kg coco peat block is a compressed growing medium made from coconut husk pith, widely used in horticulture, agriculture, nurseries, and hydroponic systems. Vietnam, especially the Mekong Delta (Bến Tre region), is one of the world’s key production centers thanks to its abundant coconut resources and modern processing facilities.

1. Coconut husk collection
Table of Contents

The production process begins with mature coconut husks, collected after coconut processing. These husks are crushed to separate:
-
Long coir fibers
-
Short fibers
-
Coco peat (coir pith)
The coco peat is the fine, spongy material used to produce peat blocks.
2. Extracting coco peat
The coconut husk will be grinded in to coconut peat and coconut fiber

3. Washing & EC Reduction

To meet horticultural standards, coco peat is:
-
Washed multiple times with clean water
-
Drained and filtered to remove excess salts
This process reduces Electrical Conductivity (EC), making the coco peat suitable for sensitive plants and export markets.
Typical EC after washing: ≤ 0.5 mS/cm (low EC grade).
4. Drying coco peat

After washing, the coco peat is:
-
Sun-dried or mechanically dried
-
Moisture content reduced to below 15–18%
Proper drying ensures stable compression and prevents mold during storage and shipping.
5. Sieving & Quality Control of coco peat

The dried coco peat is:
-
Sieved to remove fibers, stones, and impurities
-
Tested for pH, EC, moisture, and impurities
Standard quality specifications:

-
EC<= 1.0 mS or 0.5 mS
- pH: 5.5 – 6.8
-
Impurities: < 3%
-
Expansion volume: 75 liters per 5 kg block
6. Compression & Block Forming

Clean coco peat is fed into hydraulic compression machines and pressed into:
-
5 kg blocks
-
Standard block size: 30 × 30 × 10–12 cm
High compression reduces volume and lowers shipping costs.
7. Packaging & Export Preparation

Each 5 kg block is:
-
Wrapped in PE film or shrink wrap
-
Packed with OEM or customer branding
-
Palletized and container-loaded for export
A 40-foot high cube container typically loads 22-24 tons of 5 kg coco peat blocks.
