    • Top Support: Run a strong wire or rope horizontally between the tops of the poles. This will act as the main support for the coir twine.
  2. Cut and Attach the Twine
    • Measure Twine Length: Cut pieces of coir twine long enough to reach from the top support wire down to the ground with some extra length for tying.
    • Tie to Top Support: Securely tie one end of each piece of twine to the top support wire. Ensure the knots are tight and can hold the weight of the growing hops bines.
  3. Secure the Twine to the Ground
    • Anchor the Twine: Attach the other end of the coir twine to a stake or ground anchor. Drive the stake into the ground near the base of the hops plant.
    • Tension the Twine: Pull the twine taut and ensure it is securely anchored in the ground. The twine should be tight enough to support the hops bines but not so tight that it snaps under pressure.
  4. Train the Hops Bines
    • Select Bines: Once the hops bines start to grow, select 2-3 of the strongest bines from each plant to train up the twine.
    • Wrap Bines: Gently wrap the bines around the coir twine in a clockwise direction. Hops naturally grow in this direction, so this will encourage proper growth.
  5. Maintain the Twine and Bines
    • Regular Checks: Periodically check the coir twine for any signs of wear or breakage and replace it if necessary.
    • Adjust Twine: Ensure the twine remains taut and properly anchored throughout the growing season. Adjust the tension if the twine becomes loose.
  6. Harvesting
    • Cut Twine: When it’s time to harvest the hops, cut the coir twine at the top and bottom to bring down the bines.
    • Dispose of Twine: Since coir twine is biodegradable, you can compost it or dispose of it in an environmentally friendly manner.

HOW TO USE COIR ROPE FOR MUSSEL FARMING. Here’s how it typically works

1. Preparation: Coir rope is cut into suitable lengths and cleaned to remove any impurities that could affect the mussels or the water quality.
2. Deployment: The prepared coir ropes are then deployed in the water, usually in areas where mussels are cultivated. These ropes may be hung vertically or horizontally depending on the farming method used.
3. Attachment: Mussel larvae, known as spat, are introduced into the water. They naturally attach themselves to the coir rope using their byssal threads, which are strong, hair-like structures. As they grow, they continue to adhere to the rope.
4. Growth and Harvesting: Over time, the mussels grow on the coir rope, feeding on plankton in the water. Once they reach maturity, they can be harvested by removing the ropes from the water and collecting the mussels attached to them.
