1. Hydrate the Coco Coir Pellets:

   

   • Place the coco coir pellets in a shallow tray or container.
   • Slowly pour water over the pellets, allowing them to absorb the water and expand. You can use a container large enough to hold all the pellets you intend to use.
   • Ensure the pellets are thoroughly soaked. You’ll know they’re ready when they have expanded and are loose and fluffy. This usually takes a few minutes. Drain any excess water if necessary.
2. Prepare Seed Trays or Containers:

   

   • Fill seed trays or containers with the hydrated coco coir. Leave a little space at the top to accommodate the seeds.
3. Sow Your Seeds:

   

   • Follow the seed packet instructions for the appropriate depth and spacing for your particular seeds.
   • Gently press the seeds into the coco coir, ensuring good seed-to-soil contact.
4. Watering:

   

   • Monitor the moisture level in the coco coir. Keep it consistently moist but not waterlogged. You can water from the bottom by placing the trays in a shallow container of water and allowing the coir to absorb water through the drainage holes.
5. Transplanting:

   

   

   • Once your seedlings have grown large enough and have a couple of true leaves (the first leaves that appear after the initial seed leaves), you can transplant them into larger pots or directly into your garden.

Coir mat is a kind of eco-friendly mat made from coconut fiber which is found between the hard, internal shell of the outer coat of a coconut. After fully mature coconuts are harvested, they are put into machines to separate the long bristle fibers underneath the skin of the nut. This process is called wet-milling. Next, these coconut fibers are twisted into thicker and stronger strings which are then tied into coir mats. The coir fiber is relatively waterproof and is one of the few natural materials that are resistant to damage by seawater.
