  Washed Coco Peat

  

  Definition:
  Coco peat that has been rinsed with clean water to reduce the salt content and remove impurities.

  Key Features:

  

  

  • Low EC (≤ 1mS/cm)

  • Suitable for horticulture and agriculture

  • More uniform and clean

  • Neutral to slightly acidic pH (around 5.5 – 6.5)

  • Better water retention and aeration

  Best Used For:

  • Growing vegetables, fruits, flowers, seedlings

  • Potting mixes

  • Hydroponics

  Unwashed Coco Peat

  

  Definition:
  Raw coco peat that has not been treated to remove natural salts or impurities.

  Key Features:

  

  • High EC (can be > 2 mS/cm) due to residual sea salts

  • May contain dust, sand, and small debris

  • Can harm sensitive plants due to salt stress

  • Inconsistent pH and moisture retention

  Best Used For:

  

  • Industrial use, such as oil absorption

  • Landscaping (non-sensitive areas)

  • Requires washing before use in agriculture

1. COCO HUSK COLLECTION

• Collect coconut husks (outer shell of coconut) from processing plants or farms.

• These husks are the by-product of coir fiber extraction.

2. Fiber Extraction

• the husks are fed into a de-fibering machine to extract coir fibers and coco peat .

• The residue left behind is called coir pith or coco peat.

4. Sieving & Cleaning

• The dried coco peat is sieved using a vibrating sieve to remove large fibers, stones, or sand.

• Some producers use magnetic separators to remove metal impurities.

5. Washing (for Low EC Grade)

• To make low EC coco peat (for horticulture), the material is washed with clean water to remove excess salts.

• Washing continues until EC (electrical conductivity) is below 1.0 mS/cm or 0.5mS/cm

• Excess water is removed using squeezing machines.

  

6. Buffering of coco peat  (Optional)

• Some high-end growers require buffered coco peat.

• Buffering involves soaking the peat in calcium nitrate or magnesium nitrate solution to replace sodium and potassium ions.

7. Drying

• After washing/buffering, the coco peat is dried again until the moisture is below 15%.

8. Compression into Blocks

• The dried, cleaned peat is loaded into a hydraulic block press machine.

• The machine compresses the peat into 5kg blocks (common size), sometimes called bale blocks.

• Other sizes: 650g bricks, grow bags, or open-top bags.

9. Packing

• Blocks are wrapped in plastic film or UV-printed PE bags.

• Packed into pallets or bulk-loaded into containers for export.

10. Loading into Container

• 40’ HC container can carry approx:  23-24 tons of 5kg blocks (about 4,400 blocks)
