  • Collect coconut husks (outer shell of coconut) from processing plants or farms.

  • These husks are the by-product of coir fiber extraction.

2. Fiber Extraction

  • the husks are fed into a de-fibering machine to extract coir fibers and coco peat .

  • The residue left behind is called coir pith or coco peat.

4. Sieving & Cleaning

  • The dried coco peat is sieved using a vibrating sieve to remove large fibers, stones, or sand.

  • Some producers use magnetic separators to remove metal impurities.

5. Washing (for Low EC Grade)

  • To make low EC coco peat (for horticulture), the material is washed with clean water to remove excess salts.

  • Washing continues until EC (electrical conductivity) is below 1.0 mS/cm or 0.5mS/cm

6. Buffering of coco peat  (Optional)

  • Some high-end growers require buffered coco peat.

  • Buffering involves soaking the peat in calcium nitrate or magnesium nitrate solution to replace sodium and potassium ions.

7. Drying

  • After washing/buffering, the coco peat is dried again until the moisture is below 15%.

8. Compression into Blocks

  • The dried, cleaned peat is loaded into a hydraulic block press machine.

  • Other sizes: 650g bricks, grow bags, or open-top bags.
